Giant technology company and leading search engine Google has purchased a building worth $1 billion in central London where it has its offices but as a tenant. The company says this move shows its confidence in the future of the office as a place to work.
Currently, Google has 6,400 employees in London, the company is planning to spend millions of pounds to refurbish its offices within the Central Saint Giles development it’s purchasing close to Covent Garden in central London.
Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOGL) chief financial officer, Ruth Porat, says the company is planning to refit the building to make it adaptable for in-person teamwork and ensure it has meetings rooms for hybrid working as well as make more space for people.
“We have been privileged to operate in the UK for nearly 20 years, and our purchase of the Central Saint Giles development reflects our continued commitment to the country’s growth and success,” said the CFO.
In addition, Google says the new refurbished office will also be equipped with outdoor covered working spaces to enable staff members to work in fresh air.
