Microsoft to Cover Travel Costs for Abortions for its U.S Employees

Technology company, software developer and manufacturer of consumer electronics Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) says that it will be extending its abortion and gender affirming care services for its United States workers by providing traveling expenses.

Microsoft will continue to continue to do everything we can under the law to protect our employees’ rights and support employees in accessing critical healthcare, which includes services like abortion and gender-affirming care, in the United States,” said the company’s spokesperson.

Other companies including Amazon Inc. (AMZN), Yelp Inc. (YELP), Levi Strauss & Co. (LEVI) and Citigroup Inc. (C) have also pledged to meet the cost of its U.S workers who need to travel out of the state to secure an abortion.

This comes less than a week after a document leaked indicating that the United States Supreme Court would overturn its 1973 decision legalizing abortion nationwide. The matter has been gaining urgency and currently, 31 states have introduced abortion bans since the beginning of the year.

This support is being extended to include travel expense assistance for these and other medical services where access to care is limited in availability in an employee’s home geographic region,” added Microsoft.
