Geoff Morrell, the head of corporate affairs at American entertainment and media company Walt Disney Co. (DIS) revealed that he will leaving the company through an email he sent to the company’s chief executive officer, Bob Chapek.
This move comes three months after Morrell joined Disney from oil and energy company BP Plc. (LON: PB) where he was serving as the executive vice president of communication and advocacy.
“It has become clear to me that for a number of reasons it is not the right fit. I have decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities,” wrote Morrell.
His brief tenure at Disney has been marred with by controversy over how the company responded to Florida’s law banning classroom instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity for some younger students.
The CEO says following the departure of Morrell, Kristina Schake will be assuming the roles of communication efforts and the company’s general counsel, Horacio Gutierrez will take lead of Government relations and global public policy at Disney.
