On April 5, Italy’s Foreign MinisterLuigi Di Maio, announced the state had expelled 30 Russian diplomats due to security fears. This move seems to be in-line with what some of the western counties have been doing since Russia invaded Ukraine.
“The measure is in agreement with other European and Atlantic partners and is necessary for reasons linked to our national security and in the context of the current crisis caused by the unjustified aggression against Ukraine on the part of the Russian Federation,” said Di Maio.
On the same day also, Italy’s authorities summoned Russia’s ambassador to the foreign ministry to inform him the diplomats were being expelled.
Russia is yet to give its response on the matter however, citing information from TASS news agency, Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, said the country will be giving its response in the matter.
