Airbnb Halts its Services in Russia and Belarus

U.S based online market place for lodging, vacation rentals and homestays Airbnb Inc. (ABNB) has suspended its operations in Russia and Belarus. The company made this announcement on April 5.

Guests globally will no longer be able to make new reservations for stays or Experiences in Russia or Belarus. Guests located in Russia or Belarus will not be able to make new reservations on Airbnb,” said Airbnb.

According to the announcement, clients who had made bookings and reservations on the company’s platform after April 4, will have their reservations cancelled. The company’s CEO, Brian Chesky, had also hinted the company was considering such a move through his April 4th twitter post.

At the end of February, Airbnb announced its inability to process transactions linked to certain financial institution in Russia and Belarus due to the sanctions imposed on Russia by United States and her European allies.
