Twitter Expands Access of Free Data for Developers

Widely used social media network Twitter Inc. (TWTR) says that it will be expanding free access of its social networking website data to help software developers to come up with tools and products which can promote safer conversations and interactions across the online space.

This move will come as part of the company’s wider plans to decentralize its operations as it seeks to give users more control over what content should appear on their twitter feeds of have new ways of sharing content on the website.

This development was announced by the company’s head of product for the developer platform, Amir Shevat, during an interview.

I want everyone to be able to define their preferences and have their own curated content that’s adjusted to them. We can only do this if developers are in on it. The company also changed its API policy to allow for more use cases, including removing restrictions on competing with Twitter” said Shevat.

This comes at a time when there are increasing global concerns on how the algorithms of social media platforms surface certain content and the role of the respective social media companies in allowing hate speech and misinformation to spread across their platforms.
