American Airlines Cancels 1,400 Flights Citing Staff Shortage

United States leading airline company American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) announced having canceled over 1,400 flights over the past weekend attributing shortage of staff and bad weather conditions to the unfortunate development.

The company says it canceled 376 flights on Friday, 551 flights on Saturday and an additional 480 flights on Sunday. According to FlightAware, a website tracking website, since last Friday, American Airlines have delayed over 1,000 flights.

The company acknowledged and apologized for this unfortunate event further adding that it’s doing anything possible to remedy the mistake and ensure operations are back to normal within shortest time possible.

With additional weather throughout the system, our staffing begins to run tight as crew members end up out of their regular flight sequences,” said the company.

This comes at a time when the airline industry is expecting a demand increase in travelling volumes since people will be travelling for holidays during the festive season.

The company says it’s in the process of hiring more employees across all operations to take care of expected increased activities during the festive season.
