Whole Foods CEO and Co-Founder John Mackey to Resign Come Next Year

John Mackey, co-founder and chief executive officer of multinational supermarket chain stores specializing on groceries Whole Foods Market Inc. (WFM) announced that he will be stepping down from his position at the company come September next year.

Mackey made this revelation in a letter he addressed to his fellow employees at the company in which he states that following his resignation, the company’s chief operating officer, Jason Buechel will be taking over as the chief executive of Whole Foods.

Leading online retailer Amazon Inc. (AMZN) acquired Whole Foods back in 2017 in a deal worth $13.7 billion. This acquisition was seen as a very strategic one with the potential of changing how consumers shop at physical grocery stores.

In a joint statement, Mackey and Buechel said that the CEO made this decision out of his will and the leadership of Amazon is supporting it.
