Netflix Acquires Video Game Creator Night School Studio

Online streaming and movie production company Netflix Inc. (NFLX) has acquired video game creator Night School Studio, the company says this acquisition deal is aimed at diversifying its revenue sources especially now when the streaming market is highly competitive.

This goes down as the first gaming studio acquisition by Netflix, Night School Studio is popularly known for its debut game featuring a supernatural teen thriller with an eerie soundtrack dubbed Oxenfree.

Night studio has its games on gaming consoles like PlayStation, Personal Computers, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Netflix says these games will be the first non-mobile titles on its newly created video game platform.

Like our shows and films, these games will all be included as part of your Netflix membership all with no ads and no in-app purchases,” said Netflix.

Netflix further went ahead and launched five gaming titles in selected markets in Europe.

In a letter addressed to its shareholders, Netflix claims it will adopt video gaming as a new content category on its platform.

We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV. We think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games,” said Netflix.
