Citibank Launches a Tech Unit in Bahrain Seeking to Expand its Digital Platform Reach

United States investment bank and financial service provider Citibank Inc. (C) has launched a global technology hub at its offices in Bahrain with an aim of expanding its digital platform in the global space.

The bank says that it’s looking forward to employ 1,000 coders in the next 10 years. The tech unit is located at the bank’s Bahrain offices, this project came about as a partnership with Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and a government funded labor fund (Tamkeen).

The chief executive officer of Tamkeen, Hussain Mohammed Rajab, said Tamkeen will subsidize some part of the salaries and take care of training costs locally and abroad. He however failed to give figures involved.

According to the partnership, Citibank will employ 100 individuals over the next decade all of them will be performing coding related operations.

Citi FX’s global head of electronic platforms and distribution, Ala’a Saeed, said that new recruits will first have to work the two main tech platforms of the bank; Citi FX Policy and Citi Velocity.

Selecting our two flagship systems to develop out of here in Bahrain is a huge endorsement of the talent and the calibre of people that we’ve found here,” said Saeed.
