WhatsApp Launches Option For Disappearing Photos and Videos

Online messaging platform WhatsApp has rolled out a new option similar to that of photo messaging app Snapchat of disappearing photos and videos. This move is a strategic one for the Facebook Inc. (FB) owned company which places it in a better position to compete with Snapchat.

WhatsApp says that this new feature will start running from this week. The feature is called View Once and it will allow photos and video to disappear from the chat after they have been seen.

In a blog post, Facebook said that once the media content has been viewed, be it a video or a photo, the message will be showed as ‘opened’.

Daily number of Snapchat users has increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app is widely known for its stories feature which allows updates to disappear after 24 hours. Snapchat has been introducing new features on its photo messaging platform to give a better user experience to its clients.

This feature means that WhatsApp users can now start sending disappearing videos and photos.
