Microsoft Engaging Discord Aiming to Buy the Messaging Platform

Tech giant Microsoft corp. (MSFT) is holding talks with Discord Inc. with an aim of acquiring the instant messaging and digital distribution company in a deal worth over $10 billion.

Sources involved in the matter say that Discord reached out for interested buyers and Microsoft has expressed its interest as a potential buyer. The sources added that there is a higher possibility that Discord will go public rather than sell itself.

Moments before this was revealed, VentureBeat had reported that Discord was exploring a sale adding that it was finalizing talks with the company concerning the sale.

Discord also runs a platform which designs texts, videos and chat platform specific for gaming activities and other activities like virtue parties. Last year analysts valued the company at $7 billion.

Since the pandemic began the gaming industry has been booming as stay at home orders made people to rely on different sources of entertainment in their house like gaming.

This shift made Microsoft make its largest acquisition last year after it purchased video gaming company ZeniMax Media Inc. for $7.5 billion.
