China Okays Tesla to Start Selling Shanghai-Manufactured Model Y

Leading electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc. (TSLA) received a go ahead from the government of China to start selling locally made Model Y sport utility vehicle in the country.

In the beginning of the month the company submitted its application to start selling Model Y SUV made in its Shanghai gigafactory in China. On Nov 30 the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology posted the approval on its official website.

Currently the EV manufacturer is selling its Model 3 electric cars in China the company has been scaling up its manufacturing capacity to accommodate production of Model Y SUV’s.

Last week Tesla announced it had begun exporting China-made Model 3 cars in Europe and that it’s intending to begin producing electric vehicle chargers in China in 2021.

The company started selling cars made from its Shanghai plant last year December.
