Vietnamese Samsung Workers Quarantined Following a Coronavirus Positive Case

Workers at a production plant for leading consumer electronics producer Samsung Electronics Co. (KRX: 005930) in Vietnam have been quarantined after one of them tested positive for deadly coronavirus.

One employee, aged 25 working at the EQC-SI unit of the Samsung Display plant in Bac Ninh, tested positive following a coronavirus test conducted by the anti-COVID-19 task force of neighboring Bac Giang province.

The South Korean based tech giant confirmed the report further saying this one reported positive case will not affect production activities in the plant in any way.

During a live TV interview, chairman of People’s Committee of Bac Ninh province, Vietnam said 44 people working at the plant had been taken under quarantine. The chairman further directed for all buses used to transport workers to and from the company be sprayed. The entire plant will also be sprayed.

Additional contact tracing of individuals deemed to have come into close contact with the infected case is ongoing.

In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has reported 262 coronavirus infected cases, fortunately there has been no coronavirus related death in the country so far.

Samsung Electronics is the biggest single foreign investor in Vietnam, Samsung’s equipment produced in Vietnam account for 25% of all exports from the Southeast Asian country.
