Mobile Streaming App Quibi Downloaded by More Than 300,000 Users on Its First Day

Mobile video streaming platform Quibi launched on April 6 at its headquarters in Los Angeles, California. However, one day after it was launched the app had been downloaded by a whopping 300,000 users.

Quibi stands for ‘quick bites’.

The above data was provided by app data tracker Sensor Tower adding that users staying at home preferred the app due to its short movies starring Hollywood A-listers.

According to data from Sensor Tower Walt Disney Co.’s (DIS) Disney+, still tops the list of first day downloads as the app had 4 million downloads on the day it was launched.

Among the super movies in the platform include ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Most Dangerous’ where famous actor Liam Hemsworth, assumes lead role. Most of these short movies are divided in several parts each part being 10 minutes long or even less.

Quibi also incorporates other entertainment services in its portfolio some of them are reality shows and news. Additionally, LeBron James features in a sports documentary, the Basketball star reveals information about his Ohio school.

Unfortunately, at the moment Quibi services are only available in the United States and Canada only. The company did not deliver information of whether it will avail its services into other markets and when will it be done.

Quibi app services will be free for the first 90 days after installation thereafter, monthly subscriptions will start being charged at $5 per month for subscriptions with ads and $8 per month for a subscription without ads.

Quibi was founded back in 2018 by film producer and media owner Jeffrey Katzenberg. Meg Whitman is the current Chief Executive Officer of the company, Whitman has previously served as President and CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
