Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) Launches 5G Service In Houston, Boston, And Sioux Falls: Verizon Unveils 5G Coverage Maps

Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) introduced 5G service in Sioux Falls, Boston, and Houston. The 5G service is available in Fenway, Beth Israel Hospital, Simmons College, Emmanuel College, Harvard Medical School, Northeastern University, and along with the Brookline areas in Boston. Verizon will expand 5G coverage to other areas in Boston. The company expects to increase 5G services to 30 cities from 18 cities by the end of December 2019. It has also published 5G service coverage maps for customers to locate the availability of high-speed internet and enjoy lightning speeds of 1GBPS or more.

5G service near high-traffic areas

Verizon continues to expand 5G service to more areas. It is offering high-speed internet close to the high traffic areas and landmarks. The company recently introduced 5G to parts of the football stadiums.

Verizon relies on millimeter-wave to offer 5G service. As a result, the penetration of 5G is limited to sidewalks and streets. The millimeter-wave can’t enter through the windows or indoors. Therefore, visitors of Starbucks find it difficult to enjoy much-publicized 5G of Verizon. Verizon already introduced 5G service in some areas of Rhode Island.

Chief Technology Officer of Verizon, Kyle Malady, said the company is building an ultra-wideband network to provide next-generation internet to the people. It has roped in leading players in entertainment, production, and publishing to make 5G an enthralling experience to the customers.

Other carriers are at an advantage

Verizon competitors such as T-Mobile use a combination of low band, millimeter-wave, and mid-band spectrum to provide strong 5G signals to the customers. T-Mobile mocks at Verizon for relying on millimeter waves that have limitations in the reach. The 4G LTE enters indoors and through windows allowing high-speed connectivity for the customers.

5G offers more bandwidth when compared to 4G LTE. The customers can transfer higher amounts of data in 5G and connect more devices to the same network. To avail of higher speeds, the clients need to purchase 5G compatible handsets.

Verizon Connect downsizes manpower
